Hip Joint

The hip joint is the largest joint in the human body and has a highly complex anatomical structure. Injuries, malformations, or signs of wear can lead to hip joint disorders and pain at any age.
Thanks to our extensive experience and commitment to innovation, we have become one of Germany’s leading centers of excellence in recent years. We offer specialized treatment for the following conditions:

Hip Joint – Treatment Spectrum

AMIS Technique

In cases of irreparable joint wear, an artificial joint usually needs to be implanted. Surgeons can choose from various surgical approaches to the hip joint. At Procelsio Clinic, we exclusively use the most gentle method available: the AMIS technique. AMIS stands for Anterior Minimally Invasive Surgery – a minimally invasive approach from the front. This is currently the least traumatic method for hip replacement surgery. It requires not only profound surgical experience but also specific technical conditions.

Hip Arthroscopy

Hip arthroscopy is a minimally invasive procedure that is performed in only a few specialized centers across Germany. Through small incisions, a camera (arthroscope) is introduced into the joint, allowing all structures to be visualized and assessed. With equally small instruments, the surgeon can operate directly on the joint – always aiming to preserve it. Compared to knee or shoulder arthroscopy, this is a particularly challenging procedure due to the hip joint’s deep anatomical position and large surrounding muscle mass. That’s why extensive anatomical knowledge and many years of arthroscopic experience are essential.

Cartilage Cell Transplantation

At Procelsio Clinic, preserving the natural joint is always our top priority. Deep cartilage damage – especially in the knee or hip – can occur due to trauma or other factors. If left untreated, these lesions can lead to osteoarthritis over time.In the past, such damage was treated with microfracture techniques, which often resulted in unstable replacement tissue. Today, the gold standard is the transplantation of autologous cartilage cells, grown in the lab and used to fill the defect. This method provides durable, high-quality results comparable to healthy cartilage.

While it has been successfully applied in the knee for nearly 20 years, Procelsio Clinic was the first in Germany to apply this method to the hip in 2011 – and remains one of the very few clinics capable of performing it.
