Many shoulder joint disorders can now be treated arthroscopically. The orthopaedic and trauma surgery specialists at Procelsio Clinic have over 20 years of experience in advanced shoulder surgery and are happy to advise you on various shoulder conditions and their respective treatment options, including:
Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical technique that allows for precise assessment and treatment of the shoulder joint, the acromioclavicular joint, and the subacromial space (beneath the shoulder roof). The procedure typically requires only two or three small incisions: one to insert a camera-equipped arthroscope, and the others for miniature surgical instruments used to repair injuries or correct degenerative changes.
Learn moreIn cases of advanced degenerative disease or traumatic injuries, shoulder joint replacement may become necessary. This is particularly true for osteoarthritis of the shoulder or irreparable rotator cuff damage (cuff tear arthropathy). If conservative treatments are no longer effective, patients may gradually experience increasing restriction in mobility – in some cases leading to frozen shoulder. A well-planned joint replacement can significantly restore function and relieve pain.
Learn moreEven when joint replacement is considered, joint-preserving procedures such as arthroscopic surgery, tendon repairs, and labrum reconstructions are always evaluated first. Unfortunately, shoulder prosthetics still suffer from an undeservedly negative reputation among some patients – and even physicians – which may lead to delayed treatment. As with the knee, shoulder replacements are differentiated based on the clinical picture: An anatomical shoulder prosthesis is typically used in cases of osteoarthritis where the rotator cuff tendons are still intact.
