Dr. med. Jost Thissen

Dr. Jost Thissen completed his Abitur (university entrance qualification) and subsequently performed civilian service in Bochum. He then studied human medicine at the Ludwig Maximilian University and the Technical University, completing his studies in 2004 with the third state examination. During his practical year, he gained experience at university hospitals in Munich and in Brazil.

He began his specialist training at the cardiology department of Marienhospital Witten before transferring to the neurosurgery department at the University Hospital Bochum-Langendreer.

In 2009, Dr. Thissen was recruited by his then senior consultant, Prof. Scholz—who had succeeded Prof. Hassler—to join the Wedau Clinics in Duisburg. After passing his board examination in neurosurgery, he was appointed senior consultant in 2014. As early as 2012, he had performed his first endoscopic spinal procedures.

In 2016, Dr. Thissen joined the Department of Spine and Pain at St. Vinzenz Hospital in Düsseldorf as senior consultant under Chief Physician PD Dr. Herdmann. There, he specialized in spinal surgery, with a particular focus on surgical treatment of cervical spine (cervical spine disorders).

In July 2018, Dr. Thissen took up the position of senior consultant and deputy to Chief Physician Dr. Löhrer at Schön Klinik Düsseldorf. There, he further refined his surgical skills in complex procedures involving the lumbar spine and expanded his expertise in endoscopic and neuromodulative techniques (SCS – spinal cord stimulation). He also served as a trainer in endoscopic spine surgery.

Since July 1, 2024, Dr. Thissen has been working full time at the Procelsio Clinic in Essen, which specializes in minimally invasive procedures on joints and the spine. Additionally, he continues to perform neurosurgical procedures at Schön Klinik and provides outpatient care during his consultations at Gradus Practice.

Dr. Thissen is a member of the German Spine Society (DWG) and is a certified spine surgeon.
